In keeping with Adobe's multicity Migration Tour, Mother Hen Claudia McCue presented some of the key points of Adobe's program (since Atlanta isn’t on the tour). While many attendees are well into making the “Big Switch” from QuarkXPress or PageMaker, each meeting brings us new converts just beginning to stick their toes in the waters. It was a great opportunity to help translate Quark concepts to InDesign® concepts.

In addition, two great plug-ins from Triple Triangle were shown:

Slug Cubed (awkward name, perhaps, but wonderful product!) allows the creation of complex and comprehensive job slugs. The slugs can be customized with artwork and color schemes, but the real appeal of Slug Cubed is that its contents are dynamic. Add a new spot color to the file, save, and, poof! — now that color name is added to the ink list in the slug. You can add user names, job status, even time/date stamps.

Spec Cubed generates callout-style "flags" that indicate whatever you specify: What style is this text? What's the name of this graphic? What color is this? It can be a sanity-saver in workgroups tag-teaming on jobs (and wondering what the heck that other guy did).
