Atlanta InDesign User Group

On March 8, the Atlanta InDesign user group was treated to a glimpse of that other world — web design. Adobe Systems’ Lynn Grillo delighted and amazed attendees by showing how easy it is to create web pages with GoLive CS®. Lynn’s passion for GoLive was evident — and contagious. We have it on good authority that several Dreamweaver users were converted on the spot!

Lynn — who is a coauthor of SAMS Teach Yourself Adobe GoLive 6 In 24 Hours — showed the fantastic integration of GoLive CS with other Adobe applications. For graphic artists, perhaps the most important aspect of GoLive is the ability to use programs they already know — Illustrator® and Photoshop® — to create art elements for web pages. GoLive handles the “heavy lifting,” creating JPEGs and GIFs as necessary, while allowing designers to construct pages with control. Update the original PSD, and GoLive updates the artwork in the page — so cool!

For those who lamented that InDesign CS doesn’t offer export as HTML, Lynn showed why “Package for GoLive” is so much better: Dragging assets from an InDesign Package into the GoLive workspace, she quickly created a new page, even using GoLive’s tools to crop placed art.

Lynn’s entertaining session was a hard act to follow: “Mother Hen” Claudia McCue showed how InDesign preferences can be controlled to make life easier, and demonstrated the new document presets feature of InDesign CS.

We were pleased to have our largest group ever: Thanks to the Driven By Design Tour and increased word-of-mouth recommendations, we’re seeing our group grow steadily. Tell your friends!

Plan to join us on May 10 for the next meeting: We think you’ll like what we have planned!

Best regards,
Claudia McCue
