Event Details

The first Athens InDesign User Group meeting took place on Friday, 15th of May. Many good friends, colleagues, but above all, professionals who love using InDesign joined us on that nice evening, enjoying the topics and the presentations of the day.

We had the pleasure to have with us Rufus Deuchler, Senior Worldwide Evangelist, Creative solutions at Adobe, who demonstrated some real-world examples of Data Merge. I have to admit that the three case studies we watched were very impressive, especially the last one with the combination of Data Merge and Object Styles. Dynamic content, speed, productivity, fun, control & creativity and all of these quick and easy.

After the presentation, Pantazis Dimakis, an InDesign power user and data merge enthusiast, informed the group about a workaround that can solve problems related with non-unicode lists of data, coming from non-unicode versions of older data-sheet applications and have to do specifically with the Greek language.

Themis Chapsis, the group representative, started his presentation right after the break, demonstrating some cool features of long documents management like the Table of Contents, Book, Variables and Running Headers etc. Members of the group were very interested about the creation of the TOC and the usage of the Book technology, and there were many questions that Themis was more than happy to answer.

After the two speakers completed their presentations, Rufus and Themis began the Raffle, giving prizes to 12 lucky members of the group. And that's how a nice (and we hope useful) evening was ended.

Thank You

Many thanks to our meeting sponsors: Adobe, WoodWing, InDesign Magazine, CMYK Magazine, Adobe Magazine, and Anodos sa. Special thanks to Anodos.gr for kindly hosting the event at the company's headquarters presentation room. I would like to thank Lynly Schambers-Lenox and Mohammed Jogie for the creation of the group and Chris Converse for the tech-support. Special thanks goes to Wendy Katz. Wendy is one of the best professionals and project managers I have ever worked with, and she was there always for me, helping, supporting and guiding me through the creation and management of the Athens IDUG. Thanks to Rufus Deuchler for being with us at the first meeting, Chrysa Tsiapa for taking those nice pictures and of course the Anodos guys, Amanda Adamantiadis and Xenofon Kanakis for supporting the group. Finally, I would like to thank all of you that joined the group and were with us at the event.
